Carmen Soo – August 2010 SPEED Magazine Cover

CarmenSoo model, actress & tv host is Speed Magazine Philippines Cover August 2010 Issue. One-on-one with the disarmingly beautiful, Carmen Soo is the type of girl you can't stop raving about once you meet her. She's smart, grounded, level-headed, professional, not to mention absolutely stunning. Born and raised in Malaysia of Chinese descent, Carmen started out in the entertainment industry after winning a local modeling contest in Kuala Lumpur, her hometown.

Since then, she has been the face of major brands such as Pantene and Ponds.Acting became her next target when she got a role in the film Gorgeous with Jackie Chan. In 2008, Carmen then set out to steal the hearts of many Filipino men when she starred alongside Jericho Rosales in the soap opera Kahit Isang Saglit, a collaboration between ABS-CBN and Malaysian production company Double Vision.

Now back in the Philippines, Carmen is putting on another hat as a co-host on shows like Wowowee and Showtime. Luckily for us, Carmen was able to squeeze in a shoot and a short interview despite her busy schedule. As we prepped for the cover shoot, Carmen gamely answered our questions about her career here and in Malaysia, her ideal man (you guys better take notes!), the use of mobile phones in her life, and so much more.

Advance 'Marry' Christmas to Ogie and Regine

The guessing game continues and we might not know the answer until Dec. 22, yes, this year.

Are Ogie Alcasid and his beloved Regine Velasquez (finally, finally!) getting married on that date, as Regine has been hinting in her recent TV guestings?

She neither denies nor confirms it, she just keeps on dropping “clues.”

If ever they are…marching down the aisle, that is…it simply means that whatever legal impediments shall have been resolved before then. Good for them. It’s about time they tied the knot because they are not getting any younger. Regine is 40 and Ogie is 45.

Then yesterday, Ogie sent Funfare this text message: Stay tuned to Party Pilipinas (on GMA) this Sunday for an important announcement.

Hmmmm, another “cliffhanger?”

Asked for a “hint,” Ogie texted back: Basta, it’s re Dec. 22. It will be a happy day.

Okay then, here’s wishing Ogie and Regine an advance “Marry” Christmas!

Aquino declares himself a Kapuso

Well, yes, he practically did. We have a copy of his speech.

In the address delivered during GMA 7’s 60th anniversary party on Friday at the Makati Shangri-La, President Benigno Aquino III intermittently went from network fan to head of state and back.

For example: “I remember watching ‘Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea’ on this channel. That program sparked in me an abiding interest in the sciences. The untouchables impressed upon my impressionable mind the long arm of the law and the certainty of judgment. This ideal is, of course, something we’re trying to turn into reality.”

It was interesting that way.

“Working under the yoke of a dictatorship, GMA 7 kept the flickering light of truth alive,” said Aquino. “GMA 7 touched my life in a very personal way,” he added, citing the station as the only one that covered the assassination of his father, Benigno Aquino Jr., and the wakes and funerals of both his parents. He said his mother, President Cory Aquino, made her TV debut on Channel 7 in August 1984.

Clearly the proudest about the Presidential thumbs-up were Kapuso chair/ president/CEO Felipe L. Gozon and EVP/COO Gilberto R. Duavit Jr.

P-Noy briefly noted the occasional “debate” about “whether to use more airtime … to strengthen your bottom line or to expose people to socially relevant programming.” His challenge: “Do we grow as a people if we have too much airtime devoted to entertainment? Doesn’t programming that enhances good governance and encourages civic action also contribute to a better bottom line?”

P-Noy concluded, “I’m not just a viewer. As your President, I am your partner. This administration will defend your right to free expression [and] accept criticism from you.”

Expectedly, this brought the house down. Emmie G. Velarde
